Former Software Engineer, Product Manager and now Developer Evangelist. I launched the Dev Team Project to answer my many questions about what a great engineering leader is - and how to get there.
Here's what I know so far:
Engineers are feedback machines
We learn through trial and error - either by "moving fast and breaking things," or maybe just by breaking things... Mistakes are fine, so long as we learn from them. The Dev Team Project is here to collect those stories, and unpack the events behind success vs. failure. I ask each person we interview what worked - and what didn't, so that you can skip some of those mistakes.
Your engineering team is one of your most important strategic assets
The difference between software which is good vs. great is the quality of the engineering team. I don't think managing teams to success is a mystery - but I think us engineers don't talk about the challenges in getting there enough. This is a space to share the highs and the lows - and ultimately, pass on lessons to the next generation of engineering leaders.
I hope you like it.
